In the early 1950’s, the Jamaica Government established the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica (CIBJ). Recognising the importance of Coffee as a major export commodity, the CIBJ was put in place to regulate and protect the coffee industry of Jamaica. In 2017 a new body was established and industries such as Cocoa Industry Board, the regulatory functions of the Coconut Industry Board, and the Export Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, along with functions of the Coffee Industry Board, were put under the management of the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA). In 2018, JACRA officially took over the functions of the CIB and since then has been responsible for the important function of certification of coffee exports around the world, along with the homeland licencing of coffee estates.
In order to meet the insatiable demand for its unique brand of coffee, the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee company partners with carefully selected local farmers within the region. In the early 1700s, the Arabica Tipica plant was introduced into the French Caribbean Island of Martinique. Five years after its original introduction, the then governor of Jamaica was gifted one of these plants. Following nearly ten years of cultivation and refinement, the Jamaica Blue Mountain company began exporting its now revered brand of coffee.

The process for determining the Grading of Coffee Beans is key to delivering the
unique flavour of each brew. Although grading processes and terminology might
differ from country to country, there are three internationally recognised factors
that are globally accepted for the classification of Graded coffee beans.

            b) Density
            c) Storage
The Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee beans marketed and supplied by J-Roc Blue
Coffee, are graded and certified by the Jamaica Agriculture Commodities
Regulations Authority (JACRA) of Jamaica; this being the department appointed by
the Jamaica Government to regulate and protect the coffee industry of Jamaica.
The relevant points of the grading processes are as follows:
Coffee beans must be…: -
a) Cultivated in a specific region and climate
b) Ethically sourced under sustainable farming conditions
c) sourced from a single farming estate
d) Firstly - cherries are placed in large containers of water, those
     that float to the top are discarded as this is a sign of insect
     infestation or unmatured seeds (primary defects)
e) Secondly - hand-sorted and inspected to remove any large
     debris, along with a first level sizing process (secondary defects)
f) Thirdly -sifted and screened in small batches to ensure all beans
     are the same colour and the same size and/or within allowable
     size tolerances without (tertiary defects)
g) Weighing the coffee beans to determine density
h) Packaged and stored to maintain absolute freshness and
     integrity of the green coffee beans
