The Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA) provides a Certificate of Origin to our company to certify that our Blue Mountain Coffee Beans are authentic and have passed all quality-controlled screening checks. This certification ensures that all Blue Mountain Coffee Beans are graded "A" before being shipped internationally and is your guarantee of its authenticity.
"In the early 1950’s, the Jamaican Government established the Coffee Industry Board (CIB) of Jamaica in order to regulate and protect the Jamaica coffee industry. The functions of the CIB were taken over by the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA), who provide a Certificates of Origin for all shipments of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee beans. JACRA warrants through the issuance of a Certificate of Origin that the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee beans are “A” Graded before being packaged and despatched. The process for determining the Grading of Coffee Beans is key to delivering the unique flavour of each brew. Although grading processes and terminology might differ from country to country, there are three internationally recognised factors that are globally accepted for the classification of Graded coffee beans.These are:
1. Size
2. Density
3. Storage
For the Premium Grade coffee supplied by J-Roc Blue Coffee, the relevant factors are as follows:
Coffee beans are,
cultivated in a specific region and climate
ethically sourced under sustainable farming conditions
sourced from a single farming estate
firstly, cherries are placed in large containers of water, those that float to the top are discarded as this is a sign of insect infestation or unmatured seeds (primary defects)
secondly, hand-sorted and inspected to remove any large debris, along with a first level sizing process (secondary defects)
thirdly, sifted and screened in small batches to ensure all beans are the same colour and the same size and/or within allowable size tolerances (tertiary defects)
weighing the coffee beans to determine density.
